Maturity Amount
How to use the RD Calculator
- Enter the amount you will deposit every month.
- Enter the bank's RD interest rate.
- Enter the tenure in months (for example 12, 24 or 60).
- Click Calculate to see the maturity amount, total deposits and interest.
Formula used
Each monthly instalment R earns quarterly-compounded interest for the time tk (in years) it stays invested. The first instalment earns for the full tenure, the last one for just one month.
Worked example
₹5,000 per month for 12 months at 7%
Total deposited = ₹60,000
Maturity value ≈ ₹62,311
Interest earned ≈ ₹2,311
RD vs SIP
An RD gives a fixed, guaranteed return and suits short goals of 1–3 years. A SIP in an equity mutual fund has no guaranteed return but has historically delivered more over 5+ years. Many people use an RD for an emergency fund or a planned purchase, and SIPs for long-term wealth.
Tips for accurate results
- Missing an instalment can attract a small penalty; set up auto-debit.
- RD interest is taxable like FD interest, and TDS applies above the threshold.
- Post office RDs have a fixed 5-year tenure and government backing.

How RD Works
A Recurring Deposit allows you to invest a fixed amount every month for a predetermined period. Interest is usually compounded quarterly on RD deposits.
